Despite his Danish origins, Danny Nielsen has been a resident of Tenerife for more than 10 years. His first stop on arriving from Copenhagen was La Quinta, in the north of the island, to Diego Álvarez’s ‘Tasca Taller’, before he could even speak Spanish. Soon after, he relocated to the capital of Santa Cruz to continue his career as Head Chef at Covacho, and then El Gusto Por el Vino. The last few years have seen Danny develop his cooking style, with his signature Nordic and French touches, at the San Roque Hotel. We’re thrilled to have him join the Grupo Monkey family.

A bit more about him…

Danny-Nielsen-new-head-chef-at-grupo-monkey-restaurantsHe considers himself the serious, responsible type, highly driven and demanding of himself and his team. He is ready and excited to add his culinary vision to the already established cooking styles at Grupo Monkey restaurants.

After so many years on the island of Tenerife, he confesses that his weak spots are the local cheeses and wines, which only get better over time, thanks to the painstaking work carried out by the island’s wine growers. Though he doesn’t dabble in cookery from the Canaries, he says because of the excellent chefs who already have this area more than covered, he is a big fan of experimenting with fusion and feels more at home with Nordic-Canarian concoctions, something we’re very excited to discover. One of his favourite ingredients is dill and he is an expert with the smoker.

Danny is thrilled to be starting this new project with Grupo Monkey, bringing his extensive knowledge and experience to the table, to take our culinary offering to the next level. Over the coming months we will be able to enjoy changes to our menus and by way of a teaser, he tells us he intends to add his world class cochinillo or suckling pig to the menu at Monkey Bar & Grill.

You’ll also be able to enjoy his cooking at our next Grupo Monkey Gastro Days, which this year will be taking place in November, marking their 10th anniversary.

Not familiar with all our restaurants?

Just in case you’ve not yet been to all our restaurants, we thought we’d take the opportunity to introduce them to you! Monkey Bar & Grill is a grill house with a wide variety of cuts of meat, Monkey Bravo Italia offers authentic Italian cuisine, The Oriental Monkey is the place to go for Asian fusion, with its spectacular sushi bar, and last but not least there is Monkey Beach Club, which despite its fame on the local party scene, also offers exceptional Mediterranean cuisine in a luxury seaside setting, perfect for watching the sun go down.
